Background

Sawn timber must be expertly dried before being processed to make quality products. The drying and pre-drying of hardwoods and assorted building lumber present a particular challenge. Open-air drying takes months, and in most cases the required final degree of moisture is not reached; too fast or too slow drying impairs the quality; and conventional drying processes involve high investment and operating costs.

THERMO-SYSTEM’s solar-assisted sawn-timber drying, on the other hand,  achieves highest quality at minimal drying costs, because:

• Drying at low temperatures up to  50 °C is beneficial to the quality of the wood
• Compared with conventional drying, significantly less  electrical and thermal energy are required
• The drying process is microprocessor-controlled and fully automatic
• The investment per m³ of chamber volume is significantly lower
